VALENTINE'S DAY CRAFTS

With Valentine's Day just right around the corner we couldn't help but look for some craft inspiration. Valentine's Day is the perfect holiday to make something homemade, whether it is a gift or decoration. Here are three great DIY projects we wanted to share.

Count down to Valentine's Day by completing 14 acts of love throughout February.
Supplies:
-colored rice
-clear jar
-14 straws or pencils or stick or pixie sticks
-printable: Valentine's 14 Acts of Love
-scissors
-gluestick
-ribbon

Steps:
1. Color your rice red, pink, purple, or you can even leave it white.

2. Find a clear vase or jar and make sure it’s dry inside. Pour your rice into the jar. You could layer your colored rice with different colors and it would look so cute!

3. Download and print out your hearts and “acts of love” printable

4. Then cut out your hearts and sayings.
5. Glue or tape a straw or stick or pencil or pixie stick to each of the 14 hearts, to use as the stick.
6. Add a decorative ribbon around the mouth of the jar. Also add the 14 Acts of Love words of the printable to the bottom of the jar to help remember what this project is all about.
7. Place each heart stick into the jar full of rice.

Use pink and red paint chips to make bookmarks. Perfect for a teacher or student Valentine's Day gift or even to add in a card for a friend.
Supplies:
-paint chips
-heart shaped paper punch
-circular hole punch
-ribbon

Steps:
1. Carefully place the heart shaped punch in the dead center of each color on the paint chip. With firm, even pressure, push down on the punch to create a heart cutout.

2. Using the circular hole punch, create a centered hole at the top of the paint chip for your ribbon tassel.

3. Cut pieces of ribbon twice as long as the desired length of your tassel. Fold the ribbon in half, and place the ends of the ribbon through the circular hole.

4. Insert the two ends of the ribbon through the loop and gently pull up on the ends of the ribbon until the ribbon is taut and secure.

For those of you that don't have the time to craft this adorable sign is pre-made and for sale on Etsy. However, it would not be hard to replicate using wooden letters, scrapbook paper, modge podge, and ribbon.

PURPLE WEDDING INSPIRATION

We love how the city buildings are a glow with purple to support the home team, the Baltimore Ravens for the Super Bowl on February 3rd. With that, we've pulled together some inspiration board that highlights two things; football + shades of purple.

Enjoy!

2013 WEDDING FOOD TRENDS

Your catering choices for wedding guests are an esssential part of the wedding planning process. It is also important to plan ahead to pick the right menu to serve your guests taste buds as well as ever evolving food trends. The options are endless, but we've gathered our top six favorite food trends we hope to see in 2013.

Miniature bites are a great way to serve your guests during cocktail hour or even as the main course. It allows everyone to continue socializing while eating. Sticking to classics is perfect when serving miniature bites, like these sliders with beer.

Dessert bars are becoming more popular at almost any party. Sometimes your guests want something a little different than the classic cake so let them chose from an array of sweet treats.

Do something a little different and out of the box. Serve food from all your favorite international spots. Chinese dim sum is a big hit for weddings because it is Chinese favorites served in individual portions.

It is no surprise that food trucks are popular right now and incorporating them into a wedding are becoming even more popular. Whether you have one or multiple, food trucks are something different and tasty that your guests will be sure to remember.

Everyone loves classic comfort food like grilled cheese and tomato soup. Serve it in a unique bite size way or even have it passed around later in to the night.

Keep it local. Have everything from your food to your flowers be from a local farm. This is a trend that is up and coming. You can even feature the farms name on the menu.

PANTONE COLOR OF THE YEAR

It's a new year which means a new color trend! Pantone introduced the Color of the Year: Emerald. This "Lively. Radiant. Lush… A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony" is certain to be spotted throughout 2013. Whether it is in design, fashion, or events this gleaming color will help create the perfect look.

Here is our inspiration for an emerald green wedding. Without over doing it we have added simple touches to the event. This wedding dress has an emerald sash and when paired with matching emerald shoes, it adds a classic touch to your attire. We love the contrast of groomsmen attire with navy blue jackets accented with an emerald tie and the groom outfitted with an emerald jacket as well as a navy blue tie. If this look is too bold for your groomsmen, alternatively you can consider a simple emerald bow tie. A tablescape showcasing white peonies paired with emerald succulents are a simple, yet eye-catching place setting. The artistry and detail of this modern cake design is the right balance of emerald and glitz.
How will you be incorporating this emerald into your event style this year?
