SERIES FOUR

When you think of weddings you usually think about the dress, the venue, the decor and yes, of course, the flowers. From the bride’s bouquet to the table arrangements, flowers are what help make the wedding even more beautiful. That is why when we first met with Fleur de Lis Florist we instantly fell in love.

The adorable shop located in downtown Baltimore specializes in unique floral arrangements for weddings and special events. Here are a few of our favorites things from their portfolio.

The owner of Fleur de Lis has a passion for floral d├ęcor that is clear in her designs as well as her approach to customer service. Let’s introduce you to Christine from Fleur de Lis, who is gracious enough to be a part of our blog series this month. Welcome Christine!

1. Tell us a little about Fleur de Lis Florist?
We are a full service florist located in the heart of downtown. We specialize in weddings and events and are in less than a one-mile radius of some of the best venues Baltimore has to offer. Our knowledgeable team takes pride in designing very inspired artistic floral decor that people will remember.

 2. How long have you been a florist and how did you get into the industry?
I started my business in March of 1993, so I will have been in business 19 years this March 2012. I always had a creative / artistic side and started working at a florist while I was in college. My boss at the time approached me about buying one of her shops because she thought I had potential. It took her a minute to talk me into it but here I am, still in business! She has been a bit of a mentor to me through the years.

3. What would you say is the biggest trend for floral design?
I think people love a more monochromatic, sophisticated palette and also arrangements that look natural, organic, not contrived. I always say, "there is an art to making things look like one did not try!"

4. How do you decide what is the perfect flower arrangement for a client?
I try to listen to their requests and needs but also lead them in a direction that is educational and gives them options then they can make an informed decision.

5. Anything else you would like to share?
There is a real art to the floral business, it is not easy to tackle the daily challenges. We deal with many people with a lot of personalities, budgets and many aesthetic points of view. It takes a lot of patience, hard work and knowledge. I often feel that people see it as a "hobby business" but that is not true!

When you meet with your florists you should feel that they are informative and passionate about your vision. Also recognize that it is helpful to let a florist know the parameters of your budget so that you can get a good value and the most show for your budget. Also, I always believe in quality NOT quantity!!!

If you are in the market for a florist in the Baltimore area or just looking to be inspired by floral design, definitely check out Fleur de Lis Florist for all your special occasions.
