BAKERY VISIT: MAGNOLIA BAKERY

Over the summer a couple years ago, we visited the bakery that Sex in the City made famous Magnolia Bakery. While in NYC we visited the location in Greenwich Village - big mistake! It was like cupcake mayhem- restless crowd, long lines, cramped store inside. And to top it off they were out of most of the fun flavors so we ended up with a vanilla cupcake. Thoroughly disappointed by the taste (dry cake and too sweet icing) and the experience, we decided that day that Magnolia Bakery did not live up to the hype.

So this past Christmas holiday, we planned a fun trip to NYC. The trip was filled with lots of touristy things including window shopping, visiting the Rockefeller Center, visiting Grand Central Station and much more.

While in Grand Central Station, we went to the cafe' area to grab a bite. To our surprise there was a Magnolia Bakery shop inside. No crowds, no long lines, tons of fun flavors in stock. Even though our last experience wasn't the best - we decided that they looked too yummy to pass up. So we ordered two cupcakes to share - coconut and pistachio with pistachio meringue buttercream.

Both flavors were so good - light fluffy cake, totally yumtastic buttercream icing. Our favorite was the pistachio meringue buttercream. This visit to Magnolia Bakery got two thumbs up!
