A great way to show appreciation for the effort put forth by the hostess for planning and inviting you to an event is to bring a hostess gift. While hostess gifts are certainly not mandatory, they are a thoughtful way to show good manners and are typically appreciated especially if you tailor the gift to the occasion or interests of the hostess. These ideas won’t ensure you will be invited back, but they will definitely help you leave a good impression.

Cookbook: If you know a little bit about your hostess, try selecting a cookbook geared towards her interests or towards the menu of the event. If the dinner menu is focused on Asian cuisine, look for an authentic Asian cookbook as a hostess gift. If she likes cooking outdoor on the grill, the Weber's Way To Grill cookbook is a superb choice.

Fresh herbs: With 'go green' being the mantra and hottest trend, getting indoor plants like herbs in a ceramic pot would make an excellent gift option. She will appreciate prepared meals with homegrown herbs, which always taste better than herbs from the grocery store.

Flowers: You can never go wrong with a beautiful flower bouquet. It is definitely a wonderful way to say thanks. However, if you are going to get flowers make sure you know her favorite flowers so it feels more personal than just a generic bouquet.

Music: For the music lover hostess, gifting music CD's of her favorite artists can be the best way to thank them for the gracious invitation to the event.

Chocolates: Savvy Selebrations loves the simplicity of Godiva chocolates as a hostess gift. The chocolatier always has nicely decorated seasonal Ballotin options, which will give your hostess a variety of options to enjoy from dark chocolate to white chocolate.

Stationery: If your hostess loves to send handwritten thank you notes to friends and family, Papyrus and Paper Source both have an extensive collection of creative stationery from classic letterpress to graphic modern.

Coffee or Tea:  If she has a Starbucks obsession, stop by your local store and pick up her favorite. If coffee isn’t her thing, Teavana has the best tea blends that not only smell amazing, but offer a host of health benefits.
